On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Constitutional Referendum of June 2, 1946, the Municipality of Forio pays tribute to one of the most significant moments in Italian democratic history, when the Italian people — for the first time also with women voting — freely chose the future of the Nation, giving birth to the Italian Republic.

On Thursday, May 21 and Friday, May 22, 2026, events dedicated to students from the schools of Forio and the island of Ischia, as well as to all citizens, will take place in Piazza Municipio and Piazzale del Soccorso.

The program includes:

Flag-raising ceremony
Performance of the Italian National Anthem
Laying of the laurel wreath
Tribute to the Unknown Soldier, the Fallen, and recipients of Military Valor honors
Demonstration and orientation activities with the Armed Forces, Police Forces, and State Corps
Sea demonstrations at the Port of Forio

A special remembrance will be dedicated to magistrates Giovanni Falcone and Francesca Morvillo, and to escort officers Vito Schifani, Rocco Dicillo, and Antonio Montinaro, victims of the Capaci Massacre on May 23, 1992.

The Municipal Administration thanks all civil and military institutions, schools, associations, and organizations that contributed to the realization of this initiative.

Remembering means preserving memory and strengthening the values of freedom, democracy, and participation upon which our Republic is founded.
