SYNOPSIS
Anna, directed by Monica Guerritore, is a biographical drama centered on the life of Anna Magnani.
Rome, March 21, 1956. Anna Magnani (Monica Guerritore) wanders through the streets of the Eternal City, waiting for a phone call that could change her life: news of the Oscar for The Rose Tattoo. It is a suspended night, caught between hope and melancholy, a crossroads of light and shadow.
While the world celebrates her as Italy’s greatest actress, Anna faces a deeply personal heartbreak: the definitive end of her relationship with Roberto Rossellini, the love that marked her life forever. Rossellini has left her for another woman, another actress, another cinema icon: Ingrid Bergman.
Through Anna’s eyes and those of young Carol Levi—who will later become her agent and confidante—the film retraces the defining moments of Magnani’s career and personal journey: her battles with Cinecittà, her intense passions, her return to the theater as cinema begins to turn away from her, and a love that, despite everything, never truly left her.
