A journey through the melodies and poetry of early 20th-century Naples.
A new era that combines Tradition with a Future that is already here. Digital technology does not erase reality; instead, it gives it an augmented shadow. It is a benevolent ghost that dances with the performer, a backdrop that ceases to be a canvas and becomes an abyss, a galaxy, a visible memory.
This is what our small musical production offers: modest in scale, yet rich in events, quotations, and carefully selected examples of Classical Neapolitan melodies. It is for those who love the Song, for those who know it, and for those who wish to discover more about it.
It is a journey through the melodies and poetry of the great figures of the early 20th century, an era known as “The Golden Age of Neapolitan Song”—an age blessed by nature and one that knew how to give back to nature with the gratitude of children.
The central theme is, naturally, love. Yet, although everything springs from this feeling, the songs turn their gaze toward the sea, the streets and squares, the various trades, the faces of the scugnizzi, and the many souls of Naples, where thoughts become a whirlwind. Feelings chase one another: jealousy, sadness, longing, dreams, obsessions, memories and evocations…
In Naples, the expressions of the human soul are transformed into music and poetry, and voices blossom as if by magic. Hands masterfully play with bows, keys, strings and drums…
Singers and musicians in period costumes, evocative lighting, technological imagery, and sound filling the auditorium with the gentleness that such an occasion demands.
Ninety minutes of profound involvement that need no explanations or words. The performance speaks directly to the heart and to the ear. It unfolds like turning the pages of an old family album—one that remembers and relives the past in a new light, creating an atmosphere of magic that speaks only, and forever, to the heart.
