At the foot of Mount Epomeo, in the ancient village of Calimera, you will find a historic 19th-century wine cellar, where wine was once produced from grapes grown in the vineyards of Serrara Fontana. Abandoned for many years, in 2021 it was acquired by the Coppola-Mattera family, who restored it to its former glory.

Originally, this was a cave used as a shelter during the various pirate raids. The Iacono family purchased it, together with the vineyard, at the beginning of the 20th century. As a family of farmers, after the 1930s Mr. Ciro Iacono transformed it into a wine cellar, expanding it and making it suitable for wine production and storage.

On the slopes of Mount Epomeo, in caves carved into the mountain by the ancient inhabitants of Ischia, skilled local farmers continue to produce wine using the traditional methods of their ancestors. Among them is Francesco Mattera, known as Raustella, who continues to produce the wonderful nectar of the gods in his cellar in Serrara. Completely restored by Giuseppe Mattera, it is now a treasure chest of ancient winemaking traditions...
