In ancient Polynesia, Vaiana (Catherine Laga’aia) is the young daughter of the chief of Motunui, an island inhabited by a long line of navigators and explorers who, for generations, have chosen not to venture beyond the coral reef.
When fish begin to disappear and the island’s vegetation starts to decay, Vaiana feels an increasingly powerful call from the ocean and realizes that the fate of her people depends on a journey beyond the boundaries of the known world.
Chosen by the ocean to undertake an important mission, Vaiana sets sail in search of the legendary demigod Maui (Dwayne Johnson), following the ancient routes of her ancestors. Together, they must restore the mystical heart of the goddess Te Fiti, stolen long ago, and put an end to a dark plague that is devastating the world.
For Vaiana, this marks the beginning of an epic adventure across the ocean, where she will face extraordinary creatures, storms, and unexpected dangers—but, above all, discover her own strength and the courage she needs to become the leader her people desperately need.
